Activity Forms - Steps Towards Healthy Eating

On average, our body needs approximately 2000 calories a day. Some may need more or less depending on height, weight, gender, age and activity level.

These calories need to be distributed between the amounts of proteins, carbohydrates, and fats -- otherwise known as breads, fruits, vegetables, dairy, meats, and sugars.  Eating healthy is just as important as exercising daily.

Below are some common foods we like to eat and the average number of steps per calories needed to burn.

What is a Calorie?
A calorie is the amount of energy or heat it takes to raise the temperature of 1 gram of water 1 degree Celsius.

What does a Calorie do?
A calorie gives us the necessary energy for our bodies to function.

How are calories measured in the food we consume?
Calories are measured by the potential energy that food possesses.

A gram of carbohydrates has 4 calories, a gram of protein has 4 calories, and a gram of fat has 9 calories. Calories are the same, whether a fat calorie or a protein calorie -- but nutritionally, they are very different. Complex carbohydrates and proteins are a healthier source of calories than those found in some fats. Your body needs fat to function properly, but too much fat may result in serious health risks.

If you eat 3000 calories of food, you need to exert that same amount of energy to maintain your weight. If you don't expend the calories taken in, then the result is weight gain.

The answer is very simple: Eat Healthy and Be Active Every Day!
